Vocabulary 1-25


  1. misnomer - a wrong or inaccurate use of a name or term.
  2. Socratic - open discussion without specific rules 
  3. origin - beginning
  4. myth - made up story
  5. archetype - similar beliefs from culture to culture... good vs. evil
  6. cyclical - goes around and around, reoccurring
  7. assimilate - to be like those that you live around
  8. virtues - all of the good things like manners, kindness, integrity
  9. allusion - reference to something in history, literature, or pop culture
  10. illusion - when you see something that is not really there. 
  11. coincidence - it wasn't planned but it seems so (remarkable)
  12. utopia - perfect society
  13. virtues - good things in life 
  14. specter - ghost
  15. malevolent - desire to wish evil on others
  16. monotonous - when your voice tone doesn't change
  17. gluttony - excess in eating
  18. provisions - supplies
  19. pecking order - the order of levels within a society
  20. crucible - a container which is heated very hot to melt metals
  21. Puritan plain style - the idea that all is boring, plain
  22. heathen - godless, without morality
  23. abominations - worst of sins
  24. pious - deeply religious
  25. scapegoat - someone or something to place blame on
