VOCAB 1-25


  1. origin - beginning, first came from
  2. myth - made up story
  3. archetypes - similarities from culture to culture
  4. hindsight - to look backwards in history
  5. assimilate - to become like the others
  6. stereotypes - general beliefs about groups of people
  7. cyclical - to go around and around without any change
  8. catch 22 - danged if you do, danged if you don't
  9. unlearn - the things you think are right aren't necessarily true
  10. redundant - to do or say the same thing over and over the same way. 
  11. paradox - natural contradiction to itself... jumbo shrimp
  12. purge - to get rid of violently
  13. illusion - when you think you see something that is not really there
  14. allusion - reference to something in art, literature, or history
  15. grapple - wrestle
  16. Rhetorical question - not meant to be answered, just considered
  17. moral - lesson that teaches
  18. utopia - perfect society
  19. theocracy - Government based religion
  20. specters - ghosts
  21. pagan - one without belief in God
  22. Heathen - one who practices a belief without God
  23. bliss - ultimate happiness
  24. pious - deeply, deeply, religious
  25. pecking order - societal order of hierarchy
