Vocab 21-40


  1. Pretense - lying, faking 
  2. Prodigious - enormous, giant, massive
  3. misnomer - name that leads you astray
  4. magistrate - judge; literally a judge
  5. Partisan - to take a side
  6. bewildered - confused
  7. Puritan Plain Style - a culture of life, writing, art, and whatever that was bland
  8. vain - when you do something for nothing (there's no result)
  9. Pewter - inexpensive, ugly type of metal
  10. martyr - person who tries to die to accomplish something
  11. situational irony - it is irony, when the opposite happens to what you expected
  12. Dramatic irony - when the audience knows but the characters don't
  13. verbal irony - sarcasm; when you say one thing but mean another
  14. theology - study of religion
  15. calamity - disaster, chaos
  16. vengeance - revenge, pay back
  17. aside - when a character shares their inner thoughts aloud
  18. lechery - adultery
  19. grapple - wrestle
  20. 4th wall - the invisible wall that separate the audience from the play. Sometimes gets broken when the cast talks to the audience.
